Chichen Itza was a large pre-Columbian city and major focal point in the Northern Maya Lowlands built by the Maya people, one of the most visited archaeological sites in Mexico.
The name means "At the mouth of the well of the Itza" and is located in the eastern portion of Yucatán state in Mexico in the northern Yucatán Peninsula.
Dominating the North Platform of Chichen Itza is the Temple of Kukulkan usually referred to as El Castillo. His step pyramid stands about 30 metres (98 ft) high and consists of a series of nine square terraces.
