The Netherlands is geographically a very low and flat country, located below sea level and only about 50% of its land exceeding one metre above sea level.
Rotterdam is the second largest city and a municipality of the Netherlands and largest port in Europe. Large parts of the Rotterdam are below sea level.
Rotterdam is known for its Erasmus University and maritime heritage.
It is located in the province of South Holland, at the mouth of the Nieuwe Maas channel leading into the Rhine–Meuse–Scheldt delta at the North Sea.
The city reaches the North Sea by a swathe of predominantly harbour area.
