Cholpon-Ata is a town on the northern shore of Lake Issyk-Kul in Kyrgyzstan.
There is a good local museum and an open-air site with about 2000 petroglyphs dating from 800 BC to 1200AD.
Petroglyphs are images created by removing part of a rock surface by incising, picking, carving, or abrading, as a form of rock art.
Petroglyphs are found worldwide.
